About Us
Country Caboose Quilts originally opened (in 1995) as Country Caboose Crafts and Quilts in a Soo Line train caboose on the same property where our current shop stands today. To begin with, we sold handcrafted, quilted gifts made by myself and other local artists, including baby quilts, table runners and tree skirts.By 2003, owner, Kim Tyson, moved everything from the caboose into a new shop located in the front half of the building her husband built (on the same lot as caboose) to use as a garage/man cave. In addition to handcrafted gifts, the little store consisted of 30 bolts of fabric, a handful of patterns and books, and some sewing notions. Within a year, the crafts disappeared, making way for a full-blown quilt shop that would soon be bursting at the seams.
In 2012 an addition to the building expanded the shop from it's original 900 sq. ft. to it's current 2000 sq. ft., The addition provided the necessary space for a designated classroom, an area for the long arm quilting machine, and extra room for a broader product area (the only way I’ll ever get more space is to pay off the loan for the addition and build a heated garage for my husband!).
Sadly, the Soo Line train caboose, which was our name sake is no longer with us. In May of 2013, she was towed from Wahkon to Lakeville, MN, to be restored to her original state and is now on display in Northfield, MN, where she was first placed on the track almost 100 years ago.
Country Caboose Quilts has come a long way since 1995, but one thing that hasn’t changed is our dedication to our customers! We strive to offer the best customer service in the industry, by providing a friendly store atmosphere where quilters of all ages, styles, and skill levels can gather to learn, socialize, and create.
From our extensive selection of designer fabrics, sewing notions, and quilting supplies to our convenient long arm and sewing machine repair services, we have all the essentials (and lots of extras) to help our customers expand their creativity and create beautiful quilting projects that reflect their individual style!
